The first U.S. Paralympic meet of the year is this month, marking the countdown until this summer’s Games. World record holder Christie Raleigh Crossley, 36 and a mother of three, is training for the Paralympic Trials. But the average age for female swimmers at the last Paralympics was roughly 23 years old. So now, to stand a chance of gaining a spot on Team USA, Christie is balancing her training and parenting with the goal of becoming the oldest swimmer in the past 20 years to compete in their first Paralympics.
